Summary

The 2017 South Africa HIV/AIDS Behavioral Risks, Sero-Status, and Mass Media Impact Survey (SABSSM) is the fifth in a series of national population-based surveys conducted for surveillance of the HIV epidemic in South Africa. The series was designed to investigate the overall HIV prevalence and incidence as well as HIV-related behaviour and health. It enables the measurement of trends and changes in the epidemic over time, and presentation of essential data for national indicator reporting.
