India SRS Maternal Mortality: Trends, Causes and Risk Factors 1997-2003

This is a report on the first surveys of the Maternal Mortality In India series. The first three tables cover the sample female population, live births, maternal deaths, maternal mortality ratio (MMR), 95% confidence interval (CI), maternal mortality rate, and lifetime risk rate for periods—1997-1998, 1999-2001 and 2001-2003. The remaining three tables cover the distribution of maternal and non-maternal deaths among different age groups between 15 and 49 (2001-2003); causes of maternal deaths (2001-2003); type of medical attention at birth (1991-2003). Most tables provide total triennial figures for the country, regions, and states/union territories. Also included are some visual representations of data--charts and the map of India.
