Summary

The National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), established in 1967, collects socioeconomic and demographic information about the Brazilian population. Household and individual questionnaires collect information on housing characteristics, migration, education, employment, and fertility.

In 2013, the survey added questions on food security, access to television, and tablet ownership. Questions concerning Internet access were expanded, and questions on cell phone possession and marital status were maintained. The nationally representative sample covered 148,667 households and 362,555 individuals across 27 federal units and nine metropolitan regions.
