Part of phase 5 of the DHS series, the 2008-2009 Albania Demographic and Health Survey is a nationally representative household survey. The sample for the survey included 7999 households, out of which all women ages 15-49 were eligible to be interviewed, as were all men ages 15-49 in the subsample of half of the households. This resulted in individual interviews for 7,584 women and 3,013 men. The 2008-2009 DHS used three questionnaires:
- A household questionnaire that listed all members and visitors in households and to identify those eligible for individual interviews.
- A women's questionnaire included topics such as reproductive history, use of family planning methods, maternal care, breastfeeding, child vaccinations, and marriage and sexual activity.
- A men's questionnaire that covered much of the same subject matter as the women's questionnaire, but was shorter because it lacked sections on reproductive history, maternal and child health, and nutrition.
