South Africa Vital Registration System

The South African vital registration system collects data on live births, stillbirths, deaths and marriages.

The Department of Home Affairs receives notification forms for vital events, and these data are processed and disseminated by Statistics South Africa (SSA). In terms of mortality data, SSA offers microdata by age, sex, cause, marital status, province of residence, and place of death from 2006 to present.
