Designed as a standardized tool to collect data on tobacco use among youth in countries around the globe, the GYTS is a school-based survey of students ages 13-15 years. It provides a uniform methodology for constructing a sample frame, selecting schools and classes, preparing questionnaires, conducting fieldwork, and managing, processing, and analyzing data. Composed of 56 core questions, the GYTS questionnaire covers topics such as young people’s knowledge and attitudes about smoking, prevalence of tobacco use, the role of advertising and media in tobacco use, and access to cigarettes.

The purpose of this survey was to assess the sexual, risk, and health seeking behaviors of people who inject drugs (PWIDs), and monitor the differences from the previous survey conducted in 2009.
Data were collected with a questionnaire and blood tests. Information was gathered about the PWID population regarding risk behaviors, demographic characteristics, population estimates, health literacy, health service use, and the prevalence of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other infections.
The sample size consisted of 500 male and female Mauritius residents, over age 15, who had been injecting drugs at least three months. A respondent-driven sampling method (RDS) was used. The survey was conducted in Port Louis and and Curepipe.
Mauritius Health Statistics Report
The Mauritius Health Statistics Report (formerly called the Mauritius Health Statistics Annual Report) been published since 1975. The report includes health statistics pertaining to the Island of Mauritius and to the Island of Rodrigues. This report contains information on population and vital statistics, infrastructure and personnel, morbidity, mortality and the activities of almost all health services pertaining to Mauritius and Rodrigues.

The 2009 Non-communicable Disease (NCD) Survey in Mauritius was intended to measure the prevalence of non-communicable disease, examine risk factors associated with chronic disease, examine complications from diabetes, and measure the prevalence of sleep apnea. The survey, conducted in a nationally representative of households, had 6,371 participants: 2,904 men ages 19-78, and 3,467 women ages 19-75. In addition to self-completed questionnaires, the survey included a physical examination, blood and urine tests, and the taking of blood pressure and anthropometric measurements.
