The North Regional Cancer Registry (RORENO), based since its foundation in the Portuguese Institute of Oncology Francisco Gentil, Porto Regional Center, began its activity in 1988, created through government order 35/88 of January 16. Since then, it has been registering all cases of cancer sent by the various health institutions in the north of Portugal. The geographical area of RORENO initially comprised the districts of Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Bragança, as well as some municipalities in the district of Aveiro (Albergaria-a-Velha, Arouca, Castelo de Paiva, Espinho, Estarreja, Murtosa , Oliveira de Azeméis, Ovar, S. João da Madeira) and the district of Viseu (Cinfães and S. João da Pesqueira)
