The Brazil National Health Survey was first conducted in 2013. It expanded on the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) series to include modules on health access, use of health services, and lifestyle.
The survey was conducted to monitor the health conditions and behaviors of the national population, to assist with surveillance of noncommunicable chronic diseases and associated risk factors, and to evaluate the distribution of health services and resources.
Topics covered in the survey included: sociodemographic characteristics, diet, physical activity, interpersonal violence, reproductive health, consumption of alcohol and tobacco, and reporting of chronic diseases.
