Summary

The purpose of the 2017 Shabwah Nutritional Status and Mortality Survey was to investigate the levels of nutrition and malnutrition present in children ages 6-59 months. The survey also sought to estimate crude and under-five death rates. To collect this information, this survey adopted the UNICEF Standardized Monitoring and Assessment for Relief and Transition (SMART) methodology.

The data were collected through in-person household interviews and anthropometric measurements taken from children. Responses were collected from 447 households including 1,123 women and 656 children from the Plateu Zone, and from 461 households including 1,028 women and 659 children from the Lowland and Coastal zones of Shabwah. The Usaylan, Ain, Bayhan, and Merkhah Al Ulya districts were excluded from data collection due to accessibility issues and conflict.
