The study was an exercise in developing research instruments for assessing the health of individuals, adult mortality, health system responsiveness, and household health care expenditures. The survey modes, which varied from country to country, included in-person individual interviews, telephone surveys, and mail surveys. Venezuela used the brief face-to-face survey mode, with a final sample of 1,495, and a 66% response rate.
