UNSD Demographic Statistics - Population by Age, Sex and Urban/Rural Residence

This table, available from the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) on the UNdata portal, provides yearly population estimates for over 230 countries from 1948 to the present. These estimates are broken down by sex, 5-year age groups, and urban and rural residence. The data comes from the Demographic Yearbook, which disseminates statistics on population size, composition, and vital events. Special topic editions, such as those dedicated to the 2000 and 2010 census rounds, cover additional areas like education, household and housing characteristics, and economic activity. Data in the Demographic Yearbook series is collected by UNSD through questionnaires completed annually by 230+ national statistical offices.
