The panel design of the survey consists of three rounds of interviewing over two calendar years, with each MEPS panel drawn from a subsample of the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) from the prior year. MEPS includes three main components: • Household Component (HC): self-reported data on health care services, health care access, health status, conditions. • Insurance Component (IC): health insurance information collected from employers of the respondents in the HC. • Medical Provider Component (MPC): information collected from health care facilities including fees and charges for services and methods of payment.
