Summary

The 1995 College Youth Risk Behavior Survey was a component of the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System. It was the first study to collect information on the priority health-risk behaviors of undergraduate college students ages 18 and older. These behaviors contribute to intentional and unintentional injuries, tobacco, alcohol and other drug use, sexual behaviors resulting in HIV infection, other sexually transmitted diseases, and unintended pregnancies, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity. The data collected were to be used by college health and education officials to improve the policies and programs concerned with reducing risk among students in the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Out of the 136 participating universities, 4,838 of the elligible students completed the self-administer questionnaires for an overrall survey response rate of 60%.
