First conducted in 1995, the SHeS has been carried out continuously since 2008. In the first stage of each survey, data are collected through face-to-face interviews with adults ages 16+ and children ages 0-15 in private households. A set of core questions is used every year in the adult questionnaire, though rotating modules of additional questions are used for different sub-samples of this population. The same questions are used each year for the child interview. Biological samples (saliva, urine) and physical measurements are collected in the survey's second stage.
