Summary

The Continous Household Survey (CHS) has been conducted by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) since 1983 to provide regular data on a range of social and economic issues relevant to the region.

The CHS is based on a random sample of 4,500 domestic addresses, which are sorted by district council and ward for effective geographic stratification. Data is collected through face-to-face interviews, with interviews spread over a 12-month period.

For the 2007-2008 survey, the questionnaire includes three sections: one for households, one for individuals, and one for proxy respondents. The main topics covered include: basic sociodemographic characteristics, education, employment, adult health, migration, and mobile phone and internet access.
