Summary

The National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (NATSAL) 1990-1991 was conducted to improve understanding of risk factors associated with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Out of a sample of 20,000 people, a total of 18,876 adults ages 16-59 were successfully interviewed.

Two questionnaires were used: a short and long questionnaire. Topics covered in the survey included: basic sociodemographic characteristics, sexual history and orientation, current relationships, health literacy, risk reduction behavior, and attitudes towards different sexual lifestyles.
