The primary focus of the 2009 survey was longterm health conditions and self-assessed general health with a secondary focus on kidney disease, renal function, and diabetes. The 2009 survey provided an update on core topics with questionnaire modules covering general health, alcohol consumption, smoking, and fruit and vegetable consumption, as well as questions about kidney disease and personal care plans for people with long-term conditions. The survey also provided the following objective measures of health: blood pressure, anthropometric measurements, and analysis of saliva, urine, and blood samples. A total of 4,645 adults and 3,957 children were successfully interviewed. Nurse visits were conducted among 3,261 adults and 807 children to collect measurements and ask additional questions.
