Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1988 Tanzania de facto census collected data through face-to-face interviews on the subjects of housing, household demographics, employment and education for those 6 and older, household deaths, and fertility for women 12 and older. Long form, short form, and collective housing questionnaires were used to collect the data. The census days were August 27 and 28, 1988. A 10% differentially weighted sample of dwellings from the long form sample (2,310,424 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
