The purpose of the survey was to provide data on fertility by interviewing currently or formally married women on pregnancy history, family planning, and contraception. A two-stage sample design was developed, with census sections used for the first stage and women ages 15 to 49 for the second stage. A sample size of 6,450 women was determined and 6,222 interviews were completed.

This is part of a fertility survey series conducted in the 1970s and 1980s. The series covers contraceptives, reproductive health, breastfeeding, and complete birth histories. The report for this survey may be available through library systems.
