Summary

The Fertility and Family surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and four optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility regulation, and contraception history. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. In Spain, multistage, stratified cluster sampling was conducted. A direct translation of the template survey was used; however, two voluntary modules, on migration and population policy, were left out. A total of 1,991 males and 4,021 females ages 18-49 were interviewed.
