Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 2010 Singapore Census of Population used a register-based approach to obtain information via merged administrative records, and conduct enumeration via a sample survey of 20,000 households, which represented 18 percent of the 1.1 million in Singapore. The sampling frame was based on the National Database of Dwellings from the Department of Statistics, and covered only residential, which resulted in the exclusion of institutional living situations from the census. The Labour Force Survey of June 2010 was conducted alongside the census, and also used as a sub-sample.
