Summary 

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1980 Puerto Rico de jure census collected data through face-to-face interviews on subjects of housing, household demographics, education, migration, employment, income, and fertility. A long form questionnaire was completed by 50% of the housing units in areas with a population under 2,500 and one-sixth of other housing units. The census day was April 1, 1980. A 5% sample of households (160,219 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings are not identified in the sample.
