Puerto Rico Census 1970 - IPUMS

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1970 Puerto Rico de jure census collected data through face-to-face interviews and self-enumeration. In addition to the housing questionnaire, which was administered to the entire population, a short form questionnaire was given to 80% of the population and a long form questionnaire to 20%. The short form contained questions about household composition and demographics and the long form contained questions on education, migration, employment, income, and fertility. The census day was April 1, 1970. A 1% sample of households at the municipality level (27,212 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings are not identified in the sample. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
