The ENNS was planned to be a 3-year rolling survey where data would be collected from 2018-2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the data collection planned for 2020 was moved to 2021-2022. Data gathering for the 2018 ENNS was from January to December of the same year and January to February 2019, covering 45,957 households spanning 40 provinces and HUCs across the country, while the 2019 ENNS was from February to December of the same year and January to February 2020, covering 49,042 households spanning 39 provinces, HUCs, and urban area across the country. Due to the disruption of planned rolling survey, reported results from the 2018 and 2019 ENNS have been pooled to increase the precision of estimates.
