Summary

The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes ten core and 4 optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. In the Netherlands, from a sample of 19,995 addresses, a total of 5,599 were interviewed. There were up to three respondents for each household, for a total of 8,221 individual interviews (4,516 women and 3,705 men ages 18-42). The FFS was the fifth Fertility survey in a series conducted by Statistics Netherlands that began in 1974. Report includes tabulated data from other sources for various topics not covered in this survey.
