Summary

The objective of this survey of 80,000 primary age (5-12 year-old) and secondary age (12-16 year-old) schoolchildren was to describe the health, education, and living conditions of students in public schools across the country and identify the main risk factors to health that impact educational performance. Questionnaires are similar for both age groups regarding nutrition and eating habits, physical and sedentary activities, encounters with school bullying, vaccinations, oral hygiene, and dental care. For secondary students the questionnaire is expanded to include questions about tobacco, alcohol and illicit drug use, sexual activity and birth control, eating disorders, and interpersonal violence. Participants' hemoglobin levels were tested by finger prick, audio and vision tests were conducted, and height and weight were recorded.
