This hospital discharge database is generated from Mexico's Automated Hospital Discharge System (SAEH). SAEH data are reported to SINAIS, the formal health information system of Mexico's Ministry of Health). Hospital discharges are defined as the removal of the patient from inpatient services. The database does not include internal transfers within the facility or live births. Patient discharge may be attributed to medical order, patient request, transfer to another facility, or mortality. The data includes variables by state, municipality, medical unit, age and sex of patient, and initial reason for service (injury, illness, etc.).
