Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1970 Malaysia de facto census collected data through face-to-face interviews on topics of household demographics, housing, employment, education, migration, agriculture, and fertility. Data was collected through forms for living quarters, those living in institutions, forms for East and West Malaysia for individuals and agriculture, and a household list. The census day was August 25, 1970. The listing of living quarters occurred from July 27-August 9 and the population count from August 25-September 7. A 2% sample of occupied living quarters from the census (175,997 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Special populations and vacant units are not identified in the microdata. The Borneo states Sabah and Sarawak are not included in the sample.
