The survey was conducted in five areas: Zomba urban, Blantyre urban, Lilongwe urban, other urban areas, and rural areas, which included all traditional villages. The data were collected by interviews in households, completing questionnaires. The P-2 questionnaire gathered data monthly, and the P-3 questionnaire gathered data every six months. This enabled the tracking of changes. The sample size for whole country was approximately 31,000 individuals. The Chandrasekar and Deming Formula was used to estimate births and deaths.
