Summary

The Japan Patient Survey 2011 covers inpatient and outpatient treatment in medical facilities. In 2011, it collected data from 6,428 hospitals, 5,738 clinics, and 1,257 dental clinics in all prefectures, except for areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The survey determined that there were 1,068 hospitalizations and 5,784 outpatient treatments per 100,000 people. Since 1984, the survey has been conducted every three years.

The survey report provides estimates of inpatient and outpatient treatments broken down by sex and ICD-10 condition, and by 5-year age groups and ICD-10 condition. Other tabulations contain hospitalization and outpatient rates (per 100,000) by ICD condition for past survey years, dating back to 1996.
