Summary 

The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and 4 optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. The Italy FFS, also know as the Inf-2 Survey, was carried out by a 3-stage sampling design with stratification at the first stage. The target population was men and women between the age of 20 and 49 years. A total of 4,824 female interviews and 1,206 male interviews were conducted.
