Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1983 Israel de jure census collected data through self-enumeration on the subjects of housing, household demographics, employment, fertility, migration, and education. The census day was June 4, 1983; however, fieldwork continued until the end of July in most regions. The enumeration of Negev Bedouim continued until the end of August due to the geographic dispersion of that population. Coverage of the census was 97.73% of the population. A 10% sample of households from the census (403,474 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings and vacant units are not available in the microdata sample. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
