Summary 

The Golestan Cohort Study conducted from 2004-2008 investigated risk factors for esophaegeal cancer and associated sociodemographic characteristics, established banks of biospecimen samples, and create a framework for future population-based studies. The study enrolled 50,045 participants between the ages of 40 to 75 years. Data were collected through questionnaires, physical examination, and biological samples including blood, urine, hair, and nail samples.
