Summary

The Indian Study on Epidemiology of Asthma, Respiratory Symptoms and Chronic Bronchitis (INSEARCH) was conducted in two phases. Phase I, which took place in 2004-2005, involved a survey conducted across four study centers in Chandigarh, Delhi, Kanpur, and Bangalore. A total sample of 73,605 individuals from both urban and rural reas were interviewed as part of this survey. The questionnaire collected information about participants' respiratory symptoms, tobacco use, exposure to secondhand smoke, cooking fuels used in the household, asthma diagnoses, and BCG vaccination history.

Phase II of INSEARCH was conducted in 2006-2009 at twelve new centers across India.
