Summary

The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and 4 optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. In Germany, a total of 10,012 males and females between the age of 20 and 39 years were interviewed. The sample was stratified into 4 sub-groups in order to allow comparability between East and West German individuals.
