DSP covers 161 counties and districts in 31 provinces of China. Since 2004, this surveillance has been conducted every three years. Participants were chosen using a multi-stage stratified clustering sample method. Household and individual questionnaires collected information on behavioral risk factors (such as diet, physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use) and self-reported chronic disease. Anthropometric measurements, blood pressure measurements, and blood tests were also administered. Reports on this surveillance provide data on the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, stroke, obesity and other conditions.
