Summary

The CCHS surveys individuals age 12 and over living in private dwellings. Excluded from the sampling frame are individuals living on Indian Reserves and on Crown Lands, institutional residents, full time members of the Canadian Forces, and residents of certain remote regions. The CCHS covers approximately 98% of the Canadian population aged 12 and over.

Since 2007, CCHS has been a continuous survey with six two-month data collection periods. Each collection period is representative of the Canadian population living in provinces, but the sample in territories is representative only after 12 months. Data are released annually, and every two years a file combining the full two years sample (130,000 respondents) is also released.
