Summary 

This survey is a follow-up to the first Survey of Prevalence of Breastfeeding in Capitals and the Federal District. The first survey took place in 1999. The purpose of the survey was to gather data on the practice and duration of breastfeeding. This round also had the purpose of collecting data in order to compare the indicators established in the two surveys in order to view trends.

The date were collected through in-person interviews with mothers. The questionnaire focused on breastfeeding, the child's diet, and sociodemographic characteristics. The target population investigated was children under the age of 1 year who had participated in the 2008 vaccination campaign in capital cities and the Federal District. The survey collected interviews about 34,366 children.
