Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 2001 Austria de jure census collected data through face-to-face interviews and self-enumeration on household demographics, housing conditions, education, employment for individuals 15 and older, migration, and the number of live births per each woman 16 years and older. The questionnaire was comprised of a Personal Data Form, a Housing Unit Data Form for residents, and a Buildings Data Form for owners of real estate. The census day was May 15, 2001. A 10% sample of the census (883,878 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings and vacant units are not identified in the sample. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
