The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) is the oldest medical research institute in Australia. WEHI was conceived with the funds from a trust established by Eliza Hall following the death of Walter Hall. Its primary foci of research are cancers, inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, and infectious diseases. As of 2015, the Institute hosts more than 750 researchers.
