Summary 

The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is a primary source of information on the health of the population of the United States. The NHIS is a cross-sectional household interview survey that is fielded continuously throughout the year.

The 2011 NHIS covered a wide variety of topics such as family composition, socio-demographic characteristics, injuries, health care access and utilization, health insurance, income and assets, health conditions, health behaviors, and physical activity. The survey included supplementary sections on cancer, occupational health, epilepsy, child mental health, and immunization.
