Summary

The ETOPO1 datasets produce global relief models of the Earth's surface shown through land topography and ocean bathymetry between -90° to +90° in latitude and -180° to +180° in longitude. The grid is available in an ice surface version, which shows the top of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, and a bedrock version which shows the base of the ice sheets. In both versions the relief of the rest of the world is the same.

The resolution and accuracy of the datasets improve on the predecessor, the ETOPO2v2 Global Relief Model. The new models are designed to support tsunami forecasting, modeling, and warning, ocean circulation modeling, and Earth visualization.

The ETOPO1 datasets were built from a number of global, regional, ice surface, bedrock, and coastline digital datasets.
