Summary

Conducted in 2001 by the Department of Statistics and the Ministry of Health, the Bahamas Living Conditions Survey focuses on eight areas: demography and migration, poverty, household expenditures, health, education, employment, housing and access to social and community services. The focus of the survey report is on poverty and uses per-capita household-consumption expenditures as the measurement. The base poverty line is established by the cost of the least expensive amount of food necessary to meet the minimum requirement of 2,400 calories a day for adults and monetary allowances for non-food needs. This report includes tabulations of poverty indicators, economic activity, and health outcomes.
