United States National Comorbidity Survey: Baseline 1990-1992

The National Comorbidity Survey: Baseline (NCS-1) 1990-1992 is a nationally representative household sample survey on the mental health of over 8,000 non-institutionalized persons, ages 15-54, in the United States. Interviews were conducted face-to-face and over the telephone and covered alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drug use; utilization of drug treatment programs and mental health services; family and personal health history; psychiatric disorder symptoms; and respondents' mental and physical health status. The NCS-1 was conducted with modified versions of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) and Structured Clinical Interview for (SCID) DSM-III-R (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition, Revised). A subsample of 5,877 respondents were included for the diagnosis of personality disorders, and a subsample of 4,415 respondents were interviewed for the tobacco use supplement.
