Summary 

The Nigeria 1995 Integrated Baseline Health Survey (IBHS) was not nationally representative. The sampling frame for the survey was the catchment areas of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), which were funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and that were operating in 14 Nigerian states at the time.

For sampling, UNAID zones were used (Lagos, North, South-East and South-West) and within each zone, 30 clusters were surveyed. Special target populations such as commercial sex workers and long-distance truck drivers were underrepresented in the sample.

Both a household and individual questionnaire were used. The individual questionnaire was administered to females age 15-49 years and a total of 7,485 women were successfully interviewed.
