The 59th Round (January to December 2003) focused on agriculture and farmers. Special surveys included land and livestock holdings (visit 1 and visit 2), debt and investment, and a situation assessment of farmers in India. Samples were as follows: 26,143 rural and 14,870 urban households for the consumer expenditure survey, 52,265 rural and 29,893 urban for the land and livestock survey, 91,192 rural and 52,093 urban for the debt survey, and 51,770 rural households for the farmers' situation assessment. The surveys were representative at the national and state levels, excluding select areas due to geographic remoteness.
