Summary

The NHANES Epidemiologic Followup Study (NHANES EFS) was a national longitudinal study designed to investigate the relationships between clinical, nutritional, and behavioral factors assessed in the 1971-1975 National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES I). The 1987 NHANES EFS was the third of four waves in the survey. The NHANES EFS tracked morbidity, mortality, and hospital utilization, as well as changes in risk factors, functional limitation, and institutionalization. The 1987 NHANES EFS was conducted for the entire non-deceased NHANES EFS cohort (n=11,750).
