Summary

The MICS 2019-20 is a nationally representative sample survey encompassing a total of 26,882 households; involving women age 15-49 years, men age 15-49 years and children 0-5 years in 1,111 clusters. One third of the households in the sample were selected for male survey. The survey has been designed to provide estimates of key indicators for the rural and urban areas in Malawi, the three Regions, and the 28 districts. In addition to the administration of questionnaires, fieldwork teams tested the salt used for cooking in the households for iodine content, observed the place for handwashing, measured the weights and heights of children age under 5 and tested household and source water for E. coli levels. The objective of the survey is to provide information on indicators for monitoring the welfare of Women and Children. The survey was carried out from December 2019-August 2020.
