Summary

The Violence Against Children Study (VACS) is a global effort to collect data on violence against children. The study monitors the prevalence of domestic violence, sexual violence, emotional violence, and exploitation. VACS aims to inform prevention efforts, policy regarding child safety, and the utilization of health services.

The 2018 Lesotho VACS assessed the experiences of females and males ages 13-24 via a nationally representative household survey. The survey was designed to be subnationally representative in districts with high HIV burden (Berea and Maseru). Data were analyzed separately for the 13-17 versus 18-24 age groups; the former generated estimates of the prevalence of violence in the 12 months prior, while the latter produced estimates of childhood violence experienced before age 18, and violence in the 12 months before the survey.
