Summary

This 2005 baseline study was part of a school health and nutrition project implemented in primary schools in the Luwero and Nakaseke districts of Uganda. The goals of the overall project were to improve educational performance, health of school-age children, and community health through utilization of services and promotion of positive health behaviors. The 2005 study determined baseline level indicators regarding education and health for comparison at the end of the overall project timeline.

The study sample included 440 students and 20 schools. Data were collected with questionnaires, focus groups, and key informant interviews. Additional data were collected through observation and a review of school records. Blood and stool samples were also collected.
